The notion of an iPad Mini is of course becoming more of a %u2018when'than an %u2018if'with every passing day, as the consumer public falls deeper and deeper in love with smaller, more affordable tablets. The runaway success story of the Amazon Kindle Fire alone is enough to conclusively prove the need for a smaller iPad, which is unlikely to have escaped the attention of the world’s number-one consumer tech company.

That being said, the idea of a smaller iPad is still one of the most controversial by far for Apple, given the way in which the late Steve Jobs personally and publically derided the notion altogether. In his opinion, the smaller screen would pretty much take away everything that makes the iPad great, while making apps and software hugely less appealing – not to mention difficult to adapt. Nevertheless, it always has been and always will be the consumer public that has the final say in these things and given the way in which demand for a smaller iPad has never been higher, on this occasion our bets are firmly hedged with an as-yet unnamed Samsung source.

Apple iPad now have a company that supports it for recovery of data as announced by DriveSavers at the 2011 Macworld Expo. An unnamed CEO belonging to a big financial organization was the individual whose iPad was used to perform and confirm the success of their data recovery program. The company now have extended their services to individuals as well as corporate and government clients too. According to DriveSavers the fact that iPads today are using solid stage flash storage is proving to be giving them a unique challenge in this data recovery process. They are however confident of having the knowledge on how to do the task.

The method they use is to analyze each layer of the flash chip that iPad uses. The data for each layer is then mixed together to get the logical format of the original data that was stored on the flash chip. At the recently held Macworld Expo the company people explained this technology in detail to the audience there, in fact they took the help of big posters and presentation to explain the same. The issue of data encryption had also to be catered for to ensure a complete and successful recovery, was what the company people explained. The job they explained was even harder because iPads based on the A4 Chip used encryption that was hardware based and the flash controller that did the encryption job performed it at a level lower than the file system also.

In case of damaged NAND flash chips, these require to be taken off the logic board for separate analysis. This in itself was a difficult task as at times the de-soldering was an easy task while other times not so.

The cost of a data recover was $1000 which for many must be appearing to be a big sum. But the process was tedious and the data itself is a priceless object as was explained by the people from DriveSavers.

The King is dead, long live the King could well sum up the position the iPad has come to occupy in our lives over a laptop. Sure, a laptop still has its unique benefits particularly when the needs are more complex like downloading a file or doing some extensive work on excel, the laptop still wins hands down. Not to be outdone, the iPad is fast catching up. The newer models particularly have more advanced features that make the earlier versions seem archaic. And it won’t be long before the later versions overtake the laptop completely.

Think about it; be it big posters you are working on or a complex excel sheet, the new features that emerge and can be downloaded ensure that your work does not get hampered at any point of time. And the sleek and sexy look of the iPad adds to the charm of owning and using one. Needless to add, the newer versions seem to come with the sole intention of outdoing its predecessor and blowing away the competition. I am sure you have noticed this penchant for things to get slimmer, smaller and feature rich with the passage of time. I suspect the laptop will merge into the iPad at some point in time!

Of course, it gets some getting used to particularly the typing. The functionality may be lacking to an extent but going by the pace at which newer, faster and upgraded versions are hitting the market, these may soon be a non-issue! For the time being though, the trick is in getting the right application to help you along. Version 10 or, most likely, one much before that, is sure to have all the abilities of a laptop and more and the day is not far when it will make its grand appearance. And that will be a sad day for the laptop.

Ever wondered what could you possibly buy the i-Pad owner who has everything? Some of you would say a golden ticket to the front of the queue for when the next generation i-Pads go on sale, but until the movie “Steve Jobs and the Apple Factory” is released, I guess the i-Pad lover in your life will have to make do with one of the many gadgets on sale this Christmas.

I use my i-Pad for lots of things, but I’ve never been a huge fan of all the extras and fancy bits and pieces you can buy to improve the Apple experience. It’s been hard over the last few months to avoid one display stand after another foisting one Apple gadget after another down our throats. I knew eventually I would weaken and it was actually an ultra-cool retro attachment that got me drooling; an old fashioned arcade machine that you can slot your i-Pad into, allowing you to play on screen games using the plastic joysticks and buttons. I know some people will think I’m crazy that I bought a touch screen computer and then bought a gadget which forces me to use 20th century things like joysticks – but it looks like an old arcade machine for pity’s sake!

If that isn’t your bag – or your spouse is too young or too old to be into Space Invaders – there are still plenty of other i-Gifts available; and still a precious couple of shopping days before Christmas! There are the practical but elegant options: a stylish cover for the screen, perhaps, or a super-size docking station to allow you to play your tunes at a decent volume. One of my favourite i-Pad gadgets is ideal for the first time touch screen user: a plastic stylus that always hits the mark and eradicates the problem of greasy mince pie fingers on your shiny new toy!

Apple won its case against its major competitor on the tablet market – Samsung. The California company won the patent case brought against the South Koreans after its claims that the latter copied some of the design and hardware features of the iPad was respectfully confirmed by an independent German Court in association with Swiss Justice delivering organs. Nevertheless, Samsung is about to appeal the decision, this time with stronger arguments to rely on.

Ipad sales boosted in Europe after its second edition saw the day light in the EU stores. The product has been the major selling tablet of the year and with its thousands of apps available for users, it remains the strongest machine from the tablet technology out there. This is the reason why Apple needed a proper decision in this case – this is the only way it can show that they are actually dominating the market and force the competition to adapt to their innovations.

However, Samsung appeals the decision of the court. The sales of its Galaxy Tab were banned in Europe after the decision and just within days the appeal case is filed. Samsung now claims it has incorporated universal tablet design that has nothing to do with Apple as the technology inevitably adapts to similar design concepts. Furthermore, the people from South Korea confirm that there are common technological approaches that cannot overlook the hardware usage – after all, every computer has one and the same hardware composition and the same is happening with tablets. Apple is thus claimed to have no rights over assigning tablet technology solely to itself.

The ten hours of battery life of the Apple Ipad is quite fantastic, however, for those who use the device throughout the day, it is very likely for it to run slow soon. To maximize the battery usage for your iPad, there are settings that can alter within it. The customization of your iPad to utilize less energy allows your battery to last longer.

You start with turning your iPad off and unlocking it. Tap “Brightness and Wallpaper” on the Settings menu and drag the slider down to 50 percent brightness or even less. Adjusting the brightness will allow to utilize less energy. Moreover, an adjustment to the “Notifications” button from “On” to “Off” also makes sense, as its going to prevent your device from showing sounds, badges and alerts on the screen.
